In search..

There was an old lady who could not see properly. She was almost blind. She was living in a small house without light, in a village with no electricity. She was poor and was living by sewing cloth with a needle. That was her profession. One day she lost that needle. It fell inside somewhere, and because it was dark, she could not see, as the eyes also were not good. She went outside into the bright sun, and started searching for the needle. Some people who came that way asked her what she was searching. She said that she was searching for the needle that she dropped somewhere. "Where did you drop it?" they asked.

"I dropped it inside," she said.

"But why are you searching for it outside, in the sun?"

"Because inside there is no light. Outside there is light, so I am searching for it here," she answered.

This story is for all spiritual seekers..

Beyond mother’s knees

Three men made their way to the circle of a Sufi, seeking admission to his Teachings.

Almost at once one of them detached himself from the group, Angered by the erratic behaviour of the master.

On the master’s instructions, the second was told by a disciple that the Sage was a fraud.

The third was allowed to stay, but he was offered no teaching for so long that he lost interest and left the circle.

When they had all gone away the teacher instructed his circle thus:

The first man was an illustration of the principle:

Do not judge fundamental things by sight.

The second was an illustration of the injunction:

Do not judge things of Deep importance by hearing.

The third was an example of the dictum:

Never Judge by speech, or the lack of it.

When asked by a disciple why the applicants could not have been instructed

In this matter, the sage retorted: I am here to give higher possibility, not to

Teach what people pretend that they already know at their mother’s knees.

a Leaf

There was a murderer who would give his stolen things as offerings to a goddess. He would chop people’s fingers and put them on a string around his neck, so he became known as ‘Ungali Maal’, which means ‘finger necklace’. He had decided to offer a thousand human fingers to goddess.

As Buddha was traveling around his followers stopped him. They said, “You can’t travel forward in to this jungle. Everyone knows that Ungali Maal lives there. He will surely kill you if you go there.” Buddha calmly continued.
When Ungali Maal saw him coming close he screamed in a terrible and scary voice, “HEY YOU, STOP THERE!” Buddha didn’t seem to hear him. Ungali Maal got closer and yelled at him to stop again. But Buddha just kept on walking.

Ungali Maal didn’t know what to think, so he asked, “Who are you?” Buddha said, “I know who I am. Do you know who you are?” Ungali Maal was confused and surprised.

Buddha told him to go pick a leaf from a tree nearby and bring it back to him. Ungali Maal went and got a leaf. Buddha said, “Now, put the leaf back on the tree right where you got it from.” Ungali Maal said, “That’s not possible! Once I’ve taken the leaf off the tree, I can’t put it back on!” Then Buddha said, “If you cannot put it back on, then you shouldn’t take it off in the first place.”

Ungali Maal bowed down and became a disciple of Buddha.

The milk and the jasmine flower

Once upon a time the holy man Guru Nanak who believed that everyone was equal whether they are rich or poor, simple or complicated.
He was travelling in India under the hot sun with his companion Mardana when they came close to a city.
The holy men in the city heard about him coming and were afraid. They knew that he was good man and they had promised to try to be good like him but they had been greedy and unkind and so were afraid to let him into the city:
They decided to send a messenger with a bowl full of milk to say that there was no room for anyone else in the city:as the bowl was full, so was the city, and they were sorry that they could not receive him
Guru Nanak thanked the messenger and very gently picked a flower from a nearby bush and floated it on the top of the milk saying that there would always be room in the world for more goodness.
The flower floated on top of the milk and not a drop was spilt...!
